Berlin Community Edition Tickets Available
We're announcing and putting tickets on sale for the first Berlin Causal Islands event, Community Edition. Room for 100 people, Oct 4-5th.
Today we're officially announcing the first Berlin Causal Islands event, with a slight tweak: we're making the decision to run the October 2024 event as a lower-cost Community Edition.
Finding an appropriate venue of size/cost in Berlin has been really hard, and core organizers been running things off the side of their desk.
The good news is that we have found a really great in-kind venue sponsor* who will host us for two days of talks, October 4th and 5th in Berlin. We'll do a full write up early next week of our committed sponsors and speakers, and have a dedicated website available.
*Update: the venue sponsor is GitButler! More here:
What does community edition mean?
We have some great speakers lined up, and core supporters and sponsors. We're going to aim for lower cost tickets, a cheap and cheerful atmosphere, and two days of great talks with an all-volunteer organizing crew.
You can expect great people attending and presenting on a range of cutting edge topics, good opportunities for hallway and after hours connections, and perhaps even some adjacent workshops and activities in smaller spaces around Berlin.
We'll gather 9am - 5pm on Friday Oct 4th and Saturday, Oct 5th, and run through 10 - 15 speakers, from hour long presentations with Q&A, to a few shorter demos and lightning talks. The website will go live shortly with more details.
The catch is: we only have room for about 100 people.
Tickets on sale now
Your ticket purchases support lunch & snacks, a small honorarium for all speakers, and travel & expense support for the volunteer organizers. If you work for a company that will support your attendance, or want to further support Causal Islands, consider buying the community sponsor level tickets.
We are offering a 30€ discount until the end of August (basically to end of next week), which also helps assess demand. We can potentially add a larger space, book an evening event with paid artists / music, and generally help cover costs for the volunteer team if we see the tickets filling up.
If you're interested in sponsoring, please get in touch!
Stay Tuned
The “full-size” Causal Islands in Toronto last year was supported financially by Fission, but more importantly, had an entire team of dedicated people at Fission working on it as part of their day jobs.
The recent event in San Francisco and planning for Bangalore later in 2025 highlights that there is continued interest around the intersection that the Causal Islands community focuses on.
If you're interested in getting involved in Berlin, San Francisco, Bangalore, or with core operations and structure of Causal Islands itself, get in touch. We'll have some meetings around the Berlin event to talk about what it means to run a sustainable, community owned event.
I really want to blow people’s socks off, get commitments from supporters to pay artists & musicians, and take the time to prepare my own talk. We can do that with a May 2025 date. — Jack Rusher
The future of computing is only getting more interesting. Looking forward to seeing you in Berlin!
