Causal Islands Berlin Videos Releasing

The videos for Causal Islands Berlin October 2024 are being released. The first one is Andrés Cuervo presenting Folk Computer. Stay tuned for more. Thank you to GitButler, tldraw, and Kosmik for sponsoring!

We're processing the video footage from Causal Islands Berlin back in October 2024, and starting to release the talks as each talk footage is ready.

All of the talks will be released roughly in order as listed on the Causal Islands Berlin website, and published to our Youtube Channel:

Causal Islands
Information traveling at the speed of light hits a physical limit: a causal island. We experience these causal islands in our distributed systems as latency — a function of our proximity to data centers, to each other, and to the quality of our connectivity. Novel approaches to the Future of Computing — programming languages, networks, interfaces, hardware, and more — end up stranded on similar causal islands. They propagate within different industries, disciplines, and communities at uneven speeds. We’re gathering the brightest minds to challenging your idea of what’s possible, and bridging those islands together. Learn from diverse and unique perspectives across disciplines, discover exciting new areas of research and development, and make plans for ongoing collaboration.

Thank you for your support

This conference would not have been possible without a lot of support from a lot of people, from volunteer organizers Orion, Jack, and Boris, and those who helped out at the conference itself (Chad, Philipp, Ryan, Rosano, Rachael and everyone that pitched in to help with setup & tidying).

And, three companies that stepped up to support Causal Islands Berlin with direct funding and in-kind support.

GitButler

GitButler provided their office space for both days of the conference, with Patrick running all of the A/V, livestreaming, and video capture as well as being our host at the space. His amazing work is what is the basis for these videos.

Kosmik

Paul Rony of Kosmik also enthusiastically said "yes!", and also delivered an amazing talk that I hope to share with many more people. Of the past of how and why we get here in computing, to better inform where we go next.
